Semi-Oblivion
I am reading about Friedrich Nietzsche right now, so this blog will be more philosophical than usual.
I always thought the word “oblivion” meant destruction, as in, “that boat was blow into oblivion.” But it really means to be completely forgotten. Is that what I seek? Is that the natural state which draws me? There must be a sense of freedom in attaining oblivion. If no one knows who you are, if you have been completely forgotten, then no one expects anything from you. No one is angry if you don’t say the right thing at the right moment. Given my family history, especially the angry, rebellious Irish chromosome, it must be in the genes.
Freedom is the most sought after state of being. Complete freedom. Any kind of rule is suffocating, stifling, choking. It is better to be miserable and free, then to be happy and ruled.
So this will be the summer of oblivion, but not completely. I mean does anyone, even the most confirmed loner wants to be absolutely 100% not known. People go mad when in firm isolation. They talk to themselves, and start to lose their own arguments. No, better to be in semi-oblivion. Not known for what you where, or what people think you are, and what they think you think. Better to have human contact in small doses.
But the real question for the person who seeks to create art, art of any kind, is how much human contact is enough. It seems impossible to create when an individual is void of human interaction. Art is a desire to communicate, in creative ways. Communicate with the people around you, the world. But to much human contact seems to get in the way of art. It clouds, it frustrates, it exhausts, and stifles. The mind can not ferment, percolate ideas while bathed in constant banal exchanges.
Does my art exist in semi-oblivion?

RE: so this will be the summer of oblivion ..
"The summer of oblivion" is a great title. I just watched a documentary on the Summer Of Love. I hope your summer will the summer of Love AND Oblivion. :-)
SgB, I tested making comments on an earlier page. I was being funny or trying to be funny because no one can be funny compared to how funny you can be when you are being funny!
I'm in a philosophy group and would be glad to exchange ideas about ideas!
See you soon in MA. A Nun Amass

A Nun Amass, I would be glad to exchange ideas about ideas with you, but I have no idea what you are talking about.
