Hey Pull Over, I See a Starbucks

Up early this morning for a run by the river trail in Yorba Linda. This was not one of those magical thought provoking mystical runs, this one hurt. My legs where stiff and sore from yesterdays speed work. As runners will say, you have to grind through these runs to get to the good ones.

But something odd happened at the end of the run. The train tracks run parallel to the trail by the river. As I had finished my run and was walking back to my car, I could see a guy come through the bushes by the train and cross the street. The train had just stopped. This guy had on overalls and was carrying a thermos. Could this be the conductor stopping for coffee!! Sure enough the guy walks into the coffee shop, while the train is sitting there with the engine running, apparently fills up his thermos, and then gets back on the train. The train starts going. Keep in mind this train is probably a mile long, its cars are lined up beyond the horizon. Whhaaat!! Can they do that? Is he going to stop for frozen yogurt in Alhambra, before going into the Barnes and Noble in the City of Industry? Has his wife ever said, “Look honey, I know you have a train to drive and all, but can you stop at the Home Depot in Santa Fe and pickup some begonias”? Did he go into the coffee shop and say, “Can you hurry up, that train is not going to conduct itself you know.” What if somebody had hopped on and driven off with his train. “Well Officer, it was right here, I was only in the store for 5 minutes.” To which the officer replies, “Do you know if your train has Lo Jack?”
