Splash

Well, my friend and I just got back from our first trip to the Nova Master swimming program. I guess everyone needs humbling experiences in their life, right? Keeps you from thinking too much of yourself. There where three of us in the beginners lane, and I was the slowest and most clumsy in the water. The swimming complex in Irvine is first rate, three pools, including an Olympic size 50 meter lake. Wow, standing at the end of that monster was intimidating. I wasn’t sure if I could even make one lap. The instructor had us swim a lap, to see what kind of swimmers he was dealing with. I’m sure he was rolling his eyes as he saw my imitation of a drowning cat pawing its way down the lane. Try not to drown so much, he said while looking around for the nearest set of floaties. Actually he was very nice and a very good coach. His explanations and the techniques he taught made a big difference. By the end of the 45 minutes I felt as if I was a better swimmer. Anyway, it was fun to try something new and so out of the ordinary for me. Even though I feel bad at being the weakling, I’m glad we went.

Try getting stuck doing the 500 meter race - 20 laps - and everyone is faster than you :-) Between that and getting stuck with shotput in track - it was no wonder why I chose tennis! Congrats though on doing this - even if you prefer the dry land - but then again...7 miles??? I think I'd rather float - raft and poolies anyone?!
