Post Apocalyptic

I am attracted to a post apocalyptic world. The idea of having to survive with my physically abilities has a great deal of appeal. Modern American man does not want for creature comforts. There is easy access to food, shelter, drink. I want to worry for my physical survival. I want to be in a world where my existence depends on my courage, physical skills, and ability to improvise.

My survival today requires none of these things. It requires me to be able to withstand physiological stresses, illogical situations, erratic personalities, and artificial relationships. I want to have to run for my life, while being chased by the un-dead. I want to have to climb a fence in a hurry, because if I don’t a zombie will take a bite out of my leg.

I am not a risk taker, so don’t tell me to start sky diving, river rafting, or mountain climbing. These are self induced, artificial thrills, and would carry no weight in the post apocalyptic world. I am afraid I will need to be forced into bravery, and skillful survival….and if I fail, I will simply be eaten.

S, did you read "the Road" by Cormac McCarthy? I think you would like the book. Congrats on your summer off. I'm totally envious.
