Evening Stroll
I am out for an evening stroll, checking out the streets surrounding my hotel. There are lots of cute, quaint, little parks embedded in the streets of Shanghai. I am sitting right outside a park named "Huashan Green Area" on Huashan Street. It's around 4PM and the sun is starting to set, which makes the colors rich and soft. There is a great little section of this street, just past the Radison hotel. It seems to embody what I have noticed about this city. It is lined with a tunnel of trees so it is almost always in shade. The architecture is old and eclectic and full of delightful surprises. As I walk along I see little bits of iron fence, or an alley way, or a wonderfully enchanted building that you just know can not be found anywhere else in the world. It is all uniquely Shanghai.
This picture does not do it justice, but this fence is one of many examples. I will go back and get some more pictures

Wow! I had no idea you had started blogging! I was in a rush to catch up .. it was like I had arrived late and missed the first 10 minutes of my favorite movie!
Love the pictures! I'm glad the city has met your expectations.
You HAVE to get a picture of an opium den.. One where a slender Chinese woman in a tight, red, silk, dress waves you in. She calls you "Mister", and smokes an unfiltered cigarette from a long black cigarette holder.
You know I keep asking about the opium den, but people here just shrug and walk away, muttering something in Chinese.
