Wednesday Morning

Went to Starbucks this morning and was glad to see the grandfather and granddaughter again. They are such a treat. He struggles with his English, but that fact that he is trying, at his age says a lot. It seems that most young people here speak good English, but the elders do not. I think he comes to Starbucks to find people to practice his English with. He is very charming, and it's nice to have someone to talk to.

I am feeling a little sore and tired, so I am going to stay local today. After coffee I took subway line 2 for one stop, and ended up on the corner of Kaixuan Lu and Changning Lu, and then walked back to the hotel. It was a gritty part of town, but I never feel not safe here. People do notice you, and look, but it's so unusual to see a westerner, unless your at a touristy place. I did come across some promising places to eat, which is good.

Now I'm gonna lay around the hotel and read for a bit, then go sit in a park and hang out and relax. Tomorrow I'll be another tourist.
