An Average Day in Paradise

[Wendesday, December 3rd]

Yesterday was a great day spent exploring Jaco's shops and art galleries. There were two in particular that we adored. El Cofre and La Heliconia. El Cofre is owned and operated by an American women named Janet. Her shop is filled with handmade crafts and furniture from artist through out Central America. She is very knowledgeable and enjoyed telling us about the pieces and the artists that made them. La Heliconia is run by a French speaking couple, and has very colorful Caribbean arts. Laura and I bought a couple of hand painted, metallic geckos. The couple was very sweet, and their taste in art is impeccable.

It's amazing what you can fit into a day in Costa Rica. We went for a long walk on the beach, in the morning during low tide, then looped back through town. For lunch we went to local hole in the wall, where the chicken, with black beans and rice was divine, and only 1,500 colones (about 3 bucks). We kept trying to find the same dish wherever we went in Costa Rica, but we kept ending up with arroz con pollo, which is different, but more prevalent.

After the tasty meal, we went for a swim in the pool. Later in the day, down to the beach for a peak at the sunset. There is a great bar, with a patio right on the beach, at the end of our street. After the sun had set we got a table overlooking the waves, and enjoyed a few libations. Research continues into the merits of the local brew, more work to be done though, as a conclusion has not been reached. Work, work work, even while on vacation.

For dinner we went to El Amigo, which is a cross between a restaurant and a sports bar. All the restaurants in Jaco are open air, with most of the tables outside and sitting on gravel. I guess it eliminates the need to sweep. I have a huge yellow fin tuna steak, about the size of a filet mignon; excellent and about $15.00.

Can I just do this forever!
