Thanks a lot George
[Thursday, December 4th]

We saw a frog today. It was beautiful, tiny and black with lime green markings. After yesterdays failed attempt to find the trail head to Miro Mountain, we wised up and hailed a cab. It was a good thing too, because there was no sign and I'm not sure we would have spotted it otherwise. The trail winds up the hillside at the south end of Jaco and has a great view overlooking the town and the crescent shaped bay. It was a fun hike. Aside from the poison arrow frog (good thing I didn't pick him up) we spotted two monkeys, and a quick peek at an iguana, before it ran off into the brush.
Looking down at Jaco was a little sad. There are billboards all over town touting the upcoming construction of about half a dozen condominium towers. Looking around one can see three or four construction cranes, to go along with the one monstrosity of an already complete tower, looming over the surf. I know you can't stop "progress", but I don't have to like it. It reminds me of what the Grandpa said, "much construction, much construction". Get to Jaco soon, before long it will begin to look like Santa Monica.
In the evening we went down to the bar at the end of the block and had a few drinks and shot a little pool. I love this bar, it's outdoors and yet cozy, and right on the beach. In the middle of my complete and utter domination at the pool table, an extremely intoxicated fellow by the name of George came by and gave us some pool lessons. It would have been annoying except for the fact that he was super nice, and really was trying to help. Well, after that, Laura proceeded to kick my ass at the table. I'm not so sure he didn't give her the good advice, and purposely led my game astray. I can think of no other reason for my demise.

Welcome back!!! It seems like Costa Rica may have suited your style better than the gray, concrete, structured, atmosphere of Shanghai. Is that true? Perhaps it's just that C.R. more closely resembles the Cali lifestyle than China.
It's cool that you were able to share the experience with Laura, too!
When did you get back? Did you come back to rain?
Got back last Thursday at 2 AM, then had to leave later that day to pick up Melanie. The fun never stops.
I loved both Shanghai and CR, but for completly different reasons. Both together was a great combo. CR was so nice and warm, even when it rained.
Now I am wet and cold, and there are wolves outside.
