Tropical Rain

[Friday, December 5th]

I tried to take a photo of the afternoon rain here in Quepos, but the camera just can’t capture the beauty of a driving tropical rain. It seems to rain every afternoon in Costa Rica. I am sitting on an open air patio that is part of our room here at Villa Nicholos. We are staying at a nice little condo complex on the road from Quepos to the National Park at Manual Antonio. The view is stunning as we are in one of the highest rooms and overlooking a carpet of tress that lead down to the ocean. The patio even has a hammock, which is where I now ponder and write and listen to the symphony of the rain forest .

Getting here from Jaco was not easy. Figuring out the buses in Costa Rica is an art form that we have not mastered yet. After waiting well beyond the expected arrival time of our bus, we hopped in a cab for about 20 times the price. Aside from our patience, and a fist full of cash, the only other casualty of the trip was my cell phone, which got doused with mosquito repellent and melted. Scary, no wonder the mosquitoes wouldn’t come near me. They certainly will not be using my phone any more.

I guess both good and bad are constant companions on the road, and the payoff for the trials of today’s journey are this spectacular room, with a matching view, and the fact that this torrential rain started after we made it into our room. Well worth the price.
