Must....have...cup....cake

Despite the fear of rain the local weatherman had threatened us with all week, Laura and I decided to go to the circle of Orange to get a samich, do some light antiquing and visit the Orange Library. It was a beautiful day, and the circle was as busy as I have seen it in a while; aside from the annual Labor Day food fare. While waiting for our sandwiches, we overheard the shop keep telling the couple in front of us to make sure they checked out the new cup cake place that just opened up a few doors down. Fighting the urge to abandon lunch and knock over a few of the elderly as we rushed down the street, we held steadfast and got our healthy sandwiches. We sat outside and enjoyed the sun and fresh air, all the while keeping an eye on the shoppe a few doors down.

The pattern of foot traffic on this busy sidewalk became quickly apparent. No one could escape the power of the almighty cup cake. It was obvious that some people were heading that way with a purpose, but most were casually walking along, minding their own business when the magnetic draw of the cup cake overtook them with an unbreakable force. About 95% of the people walking by were quickly and helplessly diverted into the CupCakery.

I watched in fascination as a pair of elderly ladies, slowly strolling the streets of Orange, where nabbed in the sweet web. They stopped dead in their tracks as they happened upon intoxicating sweet shop. Both heads turned and looked into the window, then a few steps to the left so they could get a better look. I could see the struggle between wanting to go in and surrender to the little frosted delights, yet the desire to keep going on their merry, slightly less sweet walk. To my amazement, they started to walk away and I raised my eyebrows. Wow, the will power, the fortitude, the...oops, there they go, they made it two steps and turned around and walked right into the cup cake store. I laughed out loud, not at them, because I would soon be right behind them, but I laughed at the sheer unbridled power of the cup cake. It's an amazing force. I watched as a dad and his two daughters left their lunch table, before their lunch even arrived, to take a sneak peek at the tantalizing shop. They must have been laying out a stragety, with escape routes and optimal sight lines.
No one can escape the power of a little cake with a lot of frosting. It is truly amazing in it's sugary power. Admit it your thinking about going down there right now, aren't you? I know I am.
